Makes 4-6 Pizza's
Who doesn't love pizza. Especially when you can eat it for breakfast! Here at Food Steez, we've created a new way to start your day - Pizza. Here's some tips: Prepping dough from scratch at 7AM might not be the funnest thing to do. We recommend you do it the day before or if you're lazy, just buy some pizza dough from the market. We call this Breakfast Pizza, but that doesn't mean you need to eat it at breakfast. It'll taste delicious any time of the day. Lets get started.
For The Dough:
3 1/2 to 4 cups bread flour, plus two more for rolling
1 teaspoon sugar
1 envelope instant dry yeast
2 teaspoon kosher salt
1 1/2 cups water, 110 Degrees Fahrenheit
2 Tablespoons Olive Oil, plus 2 teaspoons
For The Pizza:
1 Package Mozzarella Cheese
1 lb Bacon
1 package white mushrooms
Chives & Cilantro for garnish
Making the Dough:
This is a recipe we got from one of the greats, Bobby Flay. It's very simple and takes 20 minutes to prep with an additional hour to let the dough rise. If you're in a rush to make this pizza, fear not! You can always pick up pre-made pizza dough at the market.
Combine the bread flour, yeast, sugar and salt into the bowl of a stand mixer. If that is unavailable and you really want to make this, you can mix with a large wooden spoon. While the mixer is running, add the water and 2 tablespoons of the oil and beat until the dough forms into a ball. If the dough sticks too much, add additional flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms a solid ball. If the dough is too dry, add additional water, 1 tablespoon at a time. Scrape the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead into a smooth, firm ball.
Next, grease a large bowl with the remaining 2 teaspoons olive oil and add the dough. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and put it in a warm area to let it double in size, for about 1 hour. Take the dough out and place on a lightly floured surface, let it sit for 10 minutes. Then you're ready to use it! Check out Bobby Flay's Video on how to make this pizza if you have any questions.
Cooking The Bacon:
Heat your saucepan under a medium flame and add a tablespoon of either olive or coconut oil. Once hot, go ahead and carefully add each slice of bacon. Keep an eye on the bacon and flip once the bottom shows a slight golden brown crisp. Continue for 2-3 more minutes. Keep the bacon slightly undercooked, as it will continue cooking in the oven on top of the pizza. Set aside.
Prepping & Cooking the Pizza:
Pre-heat the oven to 450 Degrees. Once you've prepped your bacon and your dough has set, place some flour out on a cooking board (or clean kitchen counter). Rip off small pieces of dough from your larger piece of dough into palm sized circles. You'll want these pizzas to be thin. Work the dough with your hands, pressing it firmly on your floured surface and molding it until you're able to flatten the dough into a small pizza. Create a small lip at the edges of your pizza. Add cheese to your liking to the top of your pizza. Do this for the remaining pizzas you want to cook. Once your oven is hot, place your pizza(s) on a pan and place them in the oven. Chop your mushrooms into thin pieces. After 2 minutes of cooking time, add your mushrooms and bacon. Cook for a remaining 8-10 minutes. Make sure to keep checking your pizza so it does not burn. You want the dough to be golden brown when finished. One minute prior to taking your pizza out of the oven, crack an egg in the center of the pizza. It helps if you create a divot in the middle of the pizza by shifting your toppings around. This will help prevent the egg from dripping off of your pizza. In the event that some of the egg drips off, be sure to have a pan under your pizza (we don't want that oven to get dirty!). Take your pizzas out of the oven, garnish with chives and cilantro.
